Reading Is Fun

The Reading is Fun project is dedicated to nurturing a love for reading among local elementary school children. Over the course of two enriching days during the summer break, QSL members enthusiastically distribute a curated selection of books to eager young minds. Through interactive storytelling sessions, creative workshops, and engaging discussions, the project not only provides these children with the joy of new literary adventures but also fosters their imagination and intellectual growth during the summer-vacation period. This initiative seeks to bridge educational gaps and inspire a lifelong passion for learning while creating lasting memories for both the volunteers and the young readers they touch.

The Monotones

The Monotones

Monotones is a group of QSL members who bring joy to residents of area assisted living homes and nursing homes through song and dance. This unique project runs each fall, with performances in the evenings from mid-September through mid-October. Our entertaining show is a 26 minute, "show-choir" styled show: featuring a collaboration of medleys that touch on four significant decades of music that helped shape and evolve the music industry. The show ends in a grand finish, with a beautiful arrangement of three Patriotic favorites. After each performance, we share cookies and visit with the residents. The most rewarding part of this project is not only visiting with them, but watching them enjoy the music; singing and clapping along to the music is our greatest reward. They are very gracious in communicating how much they enjoy our visits and look forward to our return year after year.

Chaddock

Chaddock is our weekly project where QSL members organize engaging activities for students at Chaddock, fostering both personal development and a sense of community. Through a diverse range of interactive crafts and educational games, the project aims to empower these children with new skills and experiences. Alongside the enriching activities, QSL members provide snacks and facilitate moments of fellowship, creating spaces for meaningful connections and emotional support. By consistently showing up every week, the project not only brings moments of joy and learning to the children but also cultivates a lasting positive impact on their lives and the volunteers who contribute to their growth.

Acts of Kindness

The "Acts of Kindness Project" is a heartwarming initiative aimed at spreading positivity and goodwill. Each month, committee members come together to perform random acts of kindness for various groups and individuals within the community. From organizing food drives for local shelters, to delivering care packages to elderly residents, and even surprising teachers with appreciation gestures, the project focuses on making a meaningful impact on different sectors of society. By dedicating just one day a month to selfless acts, the project not only uplifts the spirits of those receiving the kindness but also fosters a sense of unity and shared purpose among its participants, creating a ripple effect of goodwill that extends far beyond the initial acts.

QSL Shoppe

The QSL Shoppe is located at Quincy Junior High School. Through generous donations from the community, the Shoppe ensures a steady supply of quality clothing and personal grooming items. The Shoppe is thoughtfully organized to resemble a boutique, offering students the opportunity to select clothes that resonate with their personal style and preferences. This initiative not only addresses the practical needs of students who may lack adequate clothing but also promotes self-confidence and dignity. By making essential clothing items accessible through an on-site shop, the QSL Shoppe creates a warm and inclusive environment, fostering a sense of belonging in a non-threatening environment.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is a powerhouse movement of neighbors volunteering to deliver fresh, healthy and delicious meals to those who are unable to prepare their own food at home. Sustainers serve not only senior citizens, but also people with physical or cognitive disabilities and those who need help during a specific medical situation like recovering from surgery. Meals on Wheels also provide meal support for seniors on fixed incomes who are struggling to pay for housing, medicine, and food.
